Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne was born September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario but moved to the small town of Napanee, Ontario at the age of 5. Her French-Canadian parents are Baptist and she has two siblings, Mathew and Michelle. Avril started singing with her mom at a very young age.

As she got older, it would not take long for stardom to find this talented young lady. At the age of 16 she was in New York working on her first album with the songwriting trio The Matrix and that album, Let Go was released in June of 2004 when she was only 17. The album hit number 2 in the US and number 1 in Canada and a couple other countries. The album would quickly reach multi-platinum status.

Four singles from the album were released, Complicated,” Sk8er Boi, ”I'm With You and Losing Grip.” That year, Avril Lavigne won the MTV VMA award for best new artist. She also won four Juno Awards in Canada and scored herself 8 Grammy nomination. It was a good year.


Since then she has released two more very successful albums. Under My Skin in 2004 debuted at number 1 in many countries including the US and featured the singles Don't Tell Me, My Happy Ending” and Nobody's Home. In 2007 her most recent albumn, The Best Damn Thing was released and included the hit single Girlfriend.

In 2004 she began dating fellow Canadian artist Deryck Whybley, front man of the band Sum41. Two years later the would marry in a Catholic ceremony at a private estate in California. He proposed after surprising her with a trip to Venice, a romantic Gondola ride and a picnic. Which sounds great but keep in mind that they got married after that.

Still young and still talented, expect at least a few more albums in the coming years from Avril Lavigne although she has said in interviews that she would like to settle down and have kids in the not too distant future.
